Item description from seller

[Descripción en español a continuación] Original antique engraving depicting the bay and anchorage off the city of Arakan, situated on the western coast of Burma (present-day Myanmar). Published in 1685 by Carel Allard in Amsterdam. The engraving shows the coastline with several vessels anchored in the roadstead, mountains in the background and scattered buildings on land. At the top appears the Dutch title "Bandel ofte Reede Voorde Stadt Arakan" (Bay or anchorage off the city of Arakan). The engraving formed part of the publications of the Allard house, active in Amsterdam during the second half of the 17th century. The city of Arakan, today known as Sittwe, was then the capital of the kingdom of the same name, an independent state until its conquest by Burma in 1785. The port maintained commercial contacts with European and Asian navigators. -------------------- Grabado antiguo original que representa la bahía y el fondeadero frente a la ciudad de Arakan, situada en la costa occidental de Birmania (actual Myanmar).
