Print on Demand. This book is a collection of humorous tales set in a small American town in the late 19th to early 20th century. The author, a master of colorful wordplay and local folklore, brings to life unforgettable local characters and captures the spirit of the era. Told from the point of view of Ehenezer Ahhott, the town's resident sage and raconteur, these tales range from absurd to fantastical, examining themes of truth, deceit, and the power of the imagination. From the two-tailed dog and the human tattoo who becomes a living art exhibition, to the baseball player who smells the path of a ball, each tale is a testament to the human desire for connection, admiration, and purpose in a rapidly changing world. Through these stories, the author celebrates the humor to be found in everyday life and the uniqueness of human nature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. …

Four pairs of legs radiated from the cold stove in the center of the room the massive, imposing legs that supported the three hundred and sixty-odd pounds of William Little, land lord of' the Mansion House; the long, literary legs that terminated in Ezra Norton, editor of The Oxendale Townsman; the sophisticated, urban legs, enwrapped in startling chechs and capped with patent leather, which hustled, when called upon, for Lochinvar Leary, the' cigar drummer; and, finally, the legs inside the earth-encrusted hoots that had the honor of upholding Ehenezer Ahhott, Oxendale's sage and raconteur.
