Kleng Isidro is a quiet Tarot reader in the bustling city of Quiapo Manila who leads a seemingly ordinary life. But her world is forever changed when she discovers her uncanny ability to enter a dream realm known as The Balintataw, a surreal and eerie place where she glimpses future events through a lens of shadows, whispers, and vivid visions. With each journey into this mystical realm, Kleng sees catastrophic events unfold-events that are destined to happen unless she can find a way to intervene. Using her Tarot cards to interpret what she witnesses in The Balintataw, Kleng is desperate to warn and protect those who are unknowingly hurtling toward disaster. Yet no one believes her warnings. Dismissed as a madwoman or a fraud, Kleng struggles to make sense of her visions and to bear the crushing weight of knowing futures she cannot change alone. As the lines between reality and The Balintataw blur, Kleng's journey becomes one of self-discovery, courage, and the relentless pursuit of truth. She must navigate a world where time is fluid, futures are fragile, and the burden of knowledge is both a gift and a curse. Faced with impossible choices and unseen forces, Kleng must confront her deepest fears and find the strength to fight for those who do not see her, all while unraveling the secrets of The Balintataw and the enigmatic Watchers that inhabit it. Balintataw is a gripping tale of fate, intuition, and the human spirit's resilience against a world that refuses to believe. It is a story about a woman who dares to see beyond the veil and takes on the lonely quest of altering destiny-one vision at a time.
Berns Pen writes literary and speculative fiction that explores belief, power, and the fragile line between faith and control.
His stories dive into philosophical questions about morality, identity, and systems that shape human behavior-often placing ordinary people inside extraordinary moral dilemmas.
Blending symbolism, realism, and speculative thought, his work speaks to readers who enjoy fiction that challenges assumptions rather than offering easy answers.
When not writing, he explores ideas at the intersection of spirituality, psychology, and human resilience.
