The Bailey twins, aged seven, were be ing prepared for a trip to town, and they beguiled the process of dressing, as they did every other action, with outcries, com ments, and arguments. The reason for their turbulence was the continual vortex of their own excitement, in which they lived and breathed. In the midst of the tumult of sound their mother, a gentle, kindly woman, usually speechless, since she seldom found opportunity for a word, was patiently combing, braiding, button ing, and tying.
