About the Author: Jack P. Hailman (1936-2016) was a backpacker for more than forty years and, with Elizabeth D. Hailman, camped all over Wisconsin. They both worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was professor of zoology and she was an information processing consultant.
