His published works include British Liberalism and the United States: Political and Social Thought in the Late Victorian; The Times of London: Editorial Policy and the American News, 1850 - 1861. Gerlach taught at San Diego State University, Brown University, Roger Williams University, University of Rhode Island, and Brant College. Large thick quarto bound in sturdy blue buckram.
