EM QUE SE MOSTRA A SUA natureza, sua duraçaõ, seu movimento, sua influencia, e a sua Regiaõ &c. Escrito Por B. M. LISBOA: Na Officina de FRANCISCO BORGES DE SOUSA. Anno de 1757. Com todas as licenças necessarias. De 20,5x15 cm. Com 21, [iii] págs. Encadernação recente do século XX, com lombada em pele com ferros a ouro. Inclui uma vinheta no rosto e um belo cabeção e inicial decorada na primeira página, com motivos vegetalistas. Exemplar com ex-libris de «Antonii Comitis VII Sancti Pelagii» gravado por J. Ricardo Silva em 1944, e etiqueta de cota na guarda anterior. Carimbo oleográfico de posse de A. Moreira de Sá na folha de rosto. Restauro amador no pé das primeiras duas folhas. O ex-libris, que ainda não conseguimos identificar, pertence provavelmente a um cavaleiro da Ordem de Malta pois esteve presente numa exposição organizada em 2013 pela Academia Portuguesa de Ex-Libris intitulada 'Ex-Libris de Cavaleiros Portugueses da Soberana Militar e Hospitalária Ordem de S. João de Jerusalém, de Rodes e de Malta e de agraciados com a Ordem pró-Mérito Melitense', por ocasião das Cerimónias de Investidura de Novos Membros e Comemoração dos 900 Anos da Ordem Soberana e Militar de Malta, que tiveram lugar em Ponta Delgada, ilha de São Miguel. O moto que aparece no Ex-Libris, Pro Aris et Focis, é uma frase latina que significa 'Por Deus e pelo País' ou, literalmente, 'pelos nossos altares e lares', e que é muitas vezes usada como lema ou divisa de diversas famílias e regimentos militares. Páginas não numeradas com licenças do Santo Ofício (João de Santa Rosa), do ordinário (Diogo Barbosa Machado) e do Paço (João Baptista, da Congregação do Oratorio). Última página em branco. Tem junto: CARTA EM RESPOSTA AO DISCURSO SOBRE OS COMETAS. Escrita POR JOZÉ ACURSIO DE TAVARES, Estudante Scalabitano. LISBOA: Na Officina de FRANCISCO BORGES DE SOUSA. Anno de 1757. Com todas as licenças necessarias. Com 22, [iv] págs. Ilustrado com uma xilogravura na página 7 com a representação de um sistema Sol-Cometa. Vinheta com motivos vegetalistas no rosto. Exemplar com carimbo oleográfico de posse de A. Moreira de Sá na folha de rosto. Últimas páginas não numeradas com licenças do Santo Ofício (Frei Estêvão Cardoso Teles), do Ordinário (José de Seixas) e do Paço (João Chevalier). Duas obras muito raras e importantes para o estudo do Iluminismo em Portugal em meados do século XVIII, ambas escritas por Bento Morganti, a última sob o pseudónimo José Acúrsio de Tavares. Na primeira obra, Morganti defende a opinião mais comum e dominante na época e que ainda o foi por muito tempo, que o aparecimento dos cometas devia ser visto, em última instância, como prognóstico de bons ou maus presságios. Na segunda obra, Morganti condena a astrologia e ataca a interpretação dos cometas como maus presságios e por essa visão ser menos comum na época publicou a obra com o pseudónimo de José Acúrsio de Tavares, que já tinha utilizado antes, para se colocar ao abrigo de críticas e condenações. Ao mesmo tempo, demonstrou a sua capacidade de argumentação e a sua cultura ao apresentar sucessivamente a defesa de duas opiniões contrárias. Essa era a sua principal motivação pois Morganti usou este recurso em mais duas ocasiões publicando dois folhetos defendendo posições opostas sobre a competência dos médicos e dois folhetos sobre o Terremoto de 1755, em que no primeiro caso um dos folhetos foi publicado anónimo e no segundo caso usando o seu pseudónimo - José Acúrsio de Tavares. SOBRE AS OBRAS. O Breve discurso sobre os cometas de Morganti testemunha a importância das práticas adivinhatórias em meados do século. Foi, segundo o prólogo do autor, elaborada por ocasião da Relaçam Notavel De Hum Cometa, Que Novamente Appareceo Em Africa Sobre A Praça De Tangere, poucos dias depois do Terramoto de 1755. Num panfleto dirigido ao grande público, o seu intuito seria que o texto se destinasse a quem pretendesse adquirir um maior conhecimento nesta ciência, informando a sua obra sobre a nat.…

Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Livraria Castro e Silva, Lisboa, Portugal, +351 213467380, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
