Bill Brannington, a tough and hard drinking North-Country miner was content and optimistic about his future in Africa. He had his own small mining operation, an open-cast tin mine. He had his dogs, Sal and Charlie. His wife, Liz, was back in England, and the wound of their separation was healing. The mine was going to make him rich one day, but for the moment it kept him alive and comfortable enough. . . . .IN THE EVENINGS, he would sit on the verandah with a glass of brandy in his hand and his dogs beside him, and look out over the scrub and the bush of the plain towards the mountains. The prospect was very pleasing. . . . .AND THEN, down from the mountains, came the leopard, to wreck his life and take away what he loved best. So Brannington hunted the leopard. . . . .BRANNINGTON'S LEOPARD is a brilliant, powerful novel. In the story of the chase there is hardship and danger: in the final meeting there is passion and death: and in the urgency and power of the narrative there is the mark of fine writing. . . .See photos for additional content. . . …
