These two books were written in first person and are not an abridgement. They contain the things pleasing to God and not to the world.King Benjamin bore testimony to his sons that the plates of brass, which had been brought from Jerusalem and preserved by the hand of God, were true. He also bore testimony of the plates of Nephi, which contain the records of their fathers since they left Jerusalem, were true. This volume covers the time period from the death of Nephi (544 BC) to the death of Alma the elder and King Mosiah (91 BC) - a period of over 450 years.Two men named Alma are prominent in the Book of Mormon. The first one was prominent in the last half of the Book of Mosiah, and was discussed in the previous volume of this series. The second was Alma's son, also named Alma. He became the first chief judge of the new political system established among the Nephites in the land of Zarahemla in 91 B.C.The subjects covered in the records of Helaman and his sons are pertinent to our day since we are facing similar problems as we approach the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The Nephite records shows what occured before His First Coming. The account of their challenges and solutions should give ample help to us as we meet the similar challenges of our day.There are four Gospels, or Testimonies of the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ contained in the New Testament. These four accounts were written by four of the apostles chosen by the Savior in Jerusalem. These accounts briefly tell of his mortal life and three-year ministry in the Palestine area.This book covers a more extensive time period of the Nephite culture than any of the other five volumes. It begins during the thirty-fourth year after the birth of Jesus Christ and ends in the four hundred and twenty-first year of that same time period - for a total of three hundred and eighty seven years.
