Contemporary dark morocco; front board and ffep detached; gilt decorated boards rubbed with wear along gilt tooled edges and inner dentelles - board corners particularly worn; surface abrasions to spine which has five raised bands delineating gilt tooled compartments (no title compartment). All edges gilt but with rubbing/darkening. Marbled endpapers; front and rear pastedowns have patches of old red wax and peeled remnants of what were probably bookplates. Neatly written ink signature "Sophia Thynne" on "The Book of Common Prayer" title leaf verso; signature could be Lady Sophia Thynne (1763-1791) who was the daughter of Thomas Thynne, 1st Marquess of Bath as well as the first wife of George Ashburnham, 3rd Earl of Ashburnham. Some toning/foxing and stains to leaves. Text block is firm. Presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which aids in securing aforementioned detached front board and enhances shelf presence.
