A private estate outside Chicago.
A recruitment opportunity that feels too important to refuse.
A system older than government itself.
Nathan Mercer arrives at the Thorne Estate expecting a career-defining interview with one of the most powerful institutional families in America. Instead, he finds a world of curated histories, sealed archives, ritualized professionalism, and conversations that feel rehearsed long before he entered the room.
Behind the marble halls and inherited wealth lies something far more disturbing than conspiracy.
Continuity.
As Nathan is drawn deeper into the Estate’s hidden architecture, he begins uncovering evidence of psychological conditioning, manufactured relationships, controlled narratives, and elite systems designed not to rule the world openly but to shape it quietly across generations.
Every hallway feels intentional.
Every conversation hides a second meaning.
Every answer reveals a larger design.
And at the center of it all stands Vincent Thorne: calm, articulate, civilized—and utterly convinced that human freedom is too unstable to survive without guidance.
Blending psychological horror, institutional conspiracy, literary suspense, and slow-burn existential dread, Blood in the Marble Hall explores the terrifying possibility that the systems controlling modern life are not broken at all.
They are functioning exactly as intended.
Perfect for readers of:
- psychological horror
- conspiracy thrillers
- dark academia
- dystopian suspense
- literary horror
- cerebral slow-burn thrillers
From Lucian Ward, a dark mirror branch of the Lucidian Library universe created alongside Shaun Fleck.
