Second edition (as stated upon title page). [12], 288 pages. Hardcover: H 19.5cm x L 12.75cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Dark blue cloth rubbed; fraying and nicks at scuffed spine ends; gilt stamping to spine and front board remains bright; light vertical furrows to spine. Gilt top edge; toning to fore-edge and bottom edge. A few early leaves nicked at fore-edges; slight toning at page margins; some scattered foxing and light staining. Personal bookplate for Wm. H. Jones [William H. Jones] on front pastedown with four-line ink inscription on opposing front free endpaper recto "Helen Ashley Jones | to review for The | National Magazine | 11/3/99." Binding is firm. A very good- copy. B/w frontispiece (with tissue guard sheet) and other b/w plates all on unpaged leaves and illustrated by Charles M. Relyea. Born in Yazoo City in 1868, author, attorney, and judge Harris Dickson resided in Vicksburg for his adult life and served as a correspondent for Collier's Magazine during World War I and as a technical advisor to the Work Projects Administration in Mississippi during the 1930s.
