BANANA BALL PYTHON HANDBOOK is a comprehensive practical guide to raising and maintaining a healthy Banana Ball Python throughout its life. Written for beginners and experienced reptile keepers alike, this book provides clear guidance on housing, feeding, handling, shedding, behavior, health care, genetics, breeding, and responsible ownership.
Raphael Hartley takes readers from the essential foundations of ball python husbandry through more advanced topics such as morph genetics and reproductive management. The emphasis throughout is on creating stable conditions, recognizing the snake’s natural behaviors, preventing avoidable husbandry problems, and making welfare-centered decisions.
Inside this handbook, you’ll discover:
• The natural history, biology, temperament, and characteristics of ball pythons
• What makes the Banana morph distinctive and how its genetics influence appearance and breeding
• How to select a healthy Banana Ball Python from a reputable, responsible source
• How to prepare a secure and appropriately sized enclosure
• Guidance on substrate, hides, water, ventilation, enclosure furnishings, and environmental enrichment
• How to establish appropriate temperature gradients, heating, humidity, and lighting
• Feeding strategies based on the snake’s age, size, body condition, and individual needs
• How to choose appropriately sized prey and establish safe feeding routines
• Practical approaches to feeding refusal and other common feeding challenges
• How to recognize normal ball python behavior, stress responses, defensive signals, and changes that may indicate a problem
• Safe handling techniques for building confidence while minimizing unnecessary stress
• Understanding the shedding cycle and preventing or addressing incomplete sheds
• How to monitor weight, growth, hydration, body condition, activity, and overall health
• Preventive health care and the importance of qualified reptile veterinary support
• Warning signs associated with respiratory problems, parasites, skin conditions, injuries, digestive issues, and other health concerns
• Quarantine, sanitation, enclosure cleaning, and biosecurity practices
• An introduction to Banana Ball Python genetics, inheritance, morph combinations, and responsible breeding decisions
• Breeding preparation, pairing, reproductive behavior, egg management, incubation, and hatchling care
• Record keeping, emergency preparation, troubleshooting, and long-term care planning
• Ethical breeding, responsible rehoming, and lifelong stewardship
One of the greatest advantages a keeper can provide is consistency. Ball pythons depend on stable environmental conditions, appropriate nutrition, secure surroundings, and careful observation. This handbook helps readers understand not only what to do, but why important husbandry practices matter.
Special attention is also given to genetics and breeding. Producing attractive morph combinations should never take priority over health and welfare. Readers are encouraged to understand inheritance carefully, maintain accurate breeding records, select animals responsibly, and avoid breeding decisions that may compromise quality of life.
Whether you are preparing for your first Banana Ball Python, improving an existing setup, exploring ball python genetics, considering responsible breeding, or expanding your reptile-keeping knowledge, BANANA BALL PYTHON HANDBOOK provides the practical foundation you need.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book.
