Neuware - AZTEC MYTHOLOGY AND COSMOLOGYThe Creation Myths of the Aztecs, Quetzalcoatl the Feathered Serpent Deity, Tezcatlipoca, and Huitzilopochtli the God of War---Enter the sacred universe of the Aztecs - a world shaped by divine conflict, celestial cycles, ritual sacrifice, warrior destiny, and the recurring creation and destruction of the cosmos.Aztec Mythology and Cosmology explores the gods, legends, symbols, ceremonies, and sacred systems that gave meaning to life in ancient Mexico. At the heart of this tradition stands the myth of the Five Suns: successive worlds born, destroyed, and renewed through the actions of gods and cosmic forces. These cycles shaped the Aztec understanding of time, history, mortality, and humanity's place within an unstable but divinely ordered universe.Discover the powerful opposition between Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent associated with knowledge, wind, creation, and civilization, and Tezcatlipoca, the mysterious Smoking Mirror connected with destiny, night, conflict, rulership, and transformation. Meet the major gods and goddesses of the Aztec pantheon, examine the feminine divine, and encounter the mythic heroes, ancestral lineages, and legendary homelands of Chicomoztoc and Aztlán.This book also reveals the deeper meaning of the Aztec Sun Stone, sacred calendars, temple architecture, priestly duties, astronomical observation, ritual offerings, visions, altered states, and the religious significance of human sacrifice. Rather than treating Aztec ceremonies as isolated or incomprehensible customs, it places them within a complete cosmological system in which divine nourishment, sacred obligation, warfare, agriculture, death, and renewal were inseparably connected.Inside, you will explore: - The Five Suns and the cycles of creation and destruction- Aztec gods and goddesses, including Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca- The symbolism and cosmology of the Aztec Sun Stone- Aztlán, Chicomoztoc, and the mythology of ancestral origins- Priests, temples, sacred calendars, rituals, and religious festivals- Aztec astronomy, celestial cycles, and sacred time- Offerings, visions, sacrifice, and altered states of consciousness- Death, the afterlife, funerary beliefs, and the honored dead- Warriors, warfare, and the religious foundations of Aztec militarismSupplemented by a sacred script gallery, cosmological diagram, and genealogy of sacred lineages, Aztec Mythology and Cosmology offers a wide-ranging introduction to one of the most intricate religious civilizations of the ancient Americas.Ideal for readers of mythology, Mesoamerican history, comparative religion, ancient civilizations, indigenous spirituality, archaeology, symbolism, and world cosmology, this volume illuminates the Aztec vision of existence as a sacred struggle to preserve balance between gods, humanity, nature, time, and the living cosmos. --- --- --- --- --- Part of the Esoteric Religious Studies Series.…
