He just started listening. When Jacob Machado finds an ancient axe once wielded by his twelfth-century ancestor, he thinks he's found a link to his past. But the axe doesn't just carry history-it carries a curse. At first, Jacob feels electrified. A copywriter with no clear purpose, he's drawn into the legend of a long-dead warrior and the search for meaning that defines his family line. But the more he uncovers-from medieval Portugal to the battle-scarred landscapes of Spain and Colombia-the more the axe takes hold of him. Visions blur with memory. Loved ones grow distant. And Jacob begins to lose his grip on the present. To break the curse, Jacob must either destroy the axe-severing his only tie to meaning-or fulfil an ancient vow that demands everything. But some legacies don't want to be buried.Step into this haunting and richly imagined debut-a psychological fantasy about family legacy, genealogy, forgotten history, and the weight of the stories we inherit. Perfect for readers of The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue and The Midnight Library. …
