Rich in resources. Abundant in talent. Towering in promise.
Yet decades of misrule, division, violence, and apathy have left a giant asleep—its strength untapped, its youth scattered across foreign borders, its history ignored, its future deferred.
Awake, O Sleeping Giant! is a bold and unflinching collection of civic poetry confronting the realities of modern Nigeria—leadership failures, religious tension, insecurity, brain drain, moral compromise—and the urgent call for national renewal.
These are not sentimental verses.
They are reflections sharpened into warning.
They are questions history will not stop asking.
They are reminders that nations do not collapse overnight—they drift.
Through lyrical intensity and disciplined critique, Blessing Okechukwu Ezema explores:
- The cost of leadership without vision
- The tragedy of youth exodus and wasted brilliance
- The burden of inherited blame and unfinished independence
- The danger of forgetting history
- The power of collective responsibility
This is not merely poetry.
It is a summons.
A call to rethink leadership.
A call to reclaim responsibility.
A call to build what previous generations postponed.
For readers of African political literature, civic poetry, and social commentary, Awake, O Sleeping Giant! offers both indictment and hope—challenging citizens, leaders, and the diaspora alike to participate in a rebirth long overdue.
The giant is not dead.
It is sleeping.
And sleep, history shows, is temporary.
