Printed black and white in black and brown printed wraps. A series of photographs of ploughed earth by Audrey Walker, printed black and white, overlaid with translucent pages printed with Finlay's minimal concrete poetry. An ambitious publication where Finlay asked Salamander Press to print on Wild Hawthorn Presses belhalf. The juxtaposition of text and images seem like a prequal to later British land art publications. The final page involves a single full stop to the centre, that according to Finlay 'indicated a calculated space or pause, gives a winter earth or dark and narrowed O.', Finlay also writes that the poem 'arose from digging in the earth. there is also the idea of digging the earth, while the earh, the world, turns over, away from the sun, into winter' (ref. 'Midway: Letters from Ian Hamilton Finlay to Stephen Bann 1964-69', Wilmington Square Books, London UK, 2014). Ref Murray 3.16. Unsigned, no edition size given. Printed by Salamander Press for Wild Hawthorn Press. Condition: near fine. Seller Inventory # 003890
