This 5.0 x 6.75, 231 page softcover book is the first edition of this title, printed in 1915 many years after the author had come to California early during the gold rush. This copy is in very good condition. It was issued in printed paper wrappers, and this copy shows wear to the covers. There is one small quarter-inch tear on the front panel, some little wear to the spine foot and crown, and a crease in a corner on the corner on the back panel. There is sun fading to the spine and front edges of the wrappers, but all in all the paper covers are still firmly in place and in very good condition. The interior text pages are again in very good or better condition and show no real signs of damage or wear. The one interior condition issue to mention is the front free end paper that has pulled through the binding staples that hold the book together but this paper wraps around the book and is still firmly in place in the volume. One authority on early California gold rush era writings saw this book as a hodgepodge of information and it appears as we leaf through it that this is so - - but the varied information of techniques and places, the numerous sketches and pictures in this little volume, make it a valuable California piece. 231 pages.
