Item description from seller

Third Edition. (12),358,(1) ;(8),347 pp. Two volumes. Octavo (23 X 15.6 cm) Bound in Original paper covered boards. Rebacked recently with a new paper spine and spine label to match. Boards are worn and soiled but overall in good condition. Text is entirely untrimmed with very wide margins. Original endpapers. Armorial bookplates on each pastedown. Half titles. Text is generally clean with only very minor spotting. 21 plates. Folding chart. The text block is very nice and this copy is very large due to the lack of trimming One of the first published accounts of Captain Cook's third voyage during which he discovered the Sandwich Islands and acquired many datum on Alaska and the NW Coast of America. In defiance of the Admiralty's insistence that no private journal of this voyage be retained, Ellis was the only Englishman who had the guts to admit authorship. The fine plates, drawn by the author, who was assistant surgeon, are among the earliest established on these areas. This third edition is just a reprint of the first and there does not seem to be any changes. The Third edition must have been printed in fairly small numbers as it seems much scarcer than the first. If you like copies in original boards, this certainly is a copy to consider. The bookplate is from Howland Windsor Loring.
