Paperback. Aurora: The Bear-Dog of Sleeping Bear Point is a sweeping historical dog adventure set along the deadly Manitou Passage of Lake Michigan in the late 1800s. When a massive black Newfoundland named Aurora wanders into the Sleeping Bear Point Life-Saving Station, Keeper Elias Turner soon discovers she possesses extraordinary instincts-and a heart built for rescue. As vicious storms and shipwrecks batter the shoreline, Aurora becomes the surfmen's most trusted partner, outswimming gales, hauling survivors from the breakers, and reading the lake with uncanny precision. Her legend grows with every life she saves. But even heroes age. When a young Landseer pup named Asta arrives at the station, Aurora's final storm approaches-one that will demand everything she has left. What follows is a deeply emotional tale of loyalty, sacrifice, and legacy as Asta steps forward to carry the watch Aurora began.Perfect for readers who love heroic animal stories, Great Lakes history, and tales of courage forged by wind and water, Aurora: The Bear-Dog of Sleeping Bear Point blends fact, folklore, and heart into an unforgettable journey.
