About this Item
World atlas, complete with 36 hand colored outline double page maps, including the map Amerique Septentrionale (pl. 19), showing the southern border of America just before Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Showing Nouveau Mexique and the lands to the north of it with Native American tribal names. The northwest border showing the part of Oregon territory that was jointly owned at the time by America and Nouveau Bretagne; Alaska shown as Russie Americaine. The atlas was published during the reign of Louis Philippe; there is no history shown after the time of Charlemagne and there is no sign of Napoleon's impact. Original papered boards, title printed on spine. Spine chipped top and bottom edge, over an inch, marks from removed sticky tape. Overall very good condition, a little bit of ink smudge on the foredge. Title page a bit dusty. Last map with some early paper strengthening top edge only, on verso. OCLC 417172901. Phillips 6058 (1827 ed.). Seller Inventory # 21428
