Most cardiac surgery references explain why a surgeon chooses CABG over valve repair, or off-pump over on-pump. Far fewer show what actually happens once the chest is open — the incision, the cannulation, the anastomosis, the closure. If you can recite the indications for a procedure but can't picture the hands-on sequence that gets a patient from skin to sternum to repair, this book closes that gap.
WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR
- Medical students rotating through cardiothoracic surgery
- Cardiothoracic surgery residents and fellows building operative fluence
- OR nurses and surgical techs who need to anticipate each step of a case
- Physician assistants scrubbing in on cardiac cases
- Any learner preparing to step into the OR for the first time
THE STRUGGLES IT SOLVES
- "I understand the indications, but I freeze the first time I actually see the field." → Step-by-step operative illustrations walk through each procedure in the order it happens, so the visual sequence is familiar before you're standing at the table.
- "Textbooks explain the pathology, not the procedure." → Each chapter is built around the surgical technique itself — instrument by instrument, maneuver by maneuver — not disease theory.
- "I can't tell what order things happen in during a real case." → Procedural sequencing diagrams lay out each operation as a numbered flow, from opening to closure, so the sequence is never ambiguous.
- "I have no way to check if I actually understood the steps." → End-of-section review questions test recall of the operative sequence itself, not just indications or outcomes.
WHAT TO EXPECT INSIDE
- Organized into clearly defined parts covering the major categories of cardiac surgery
- Original step-by-step operative illustrations built specifically for this book
- A dedicated technique-walkthrough section for each major procedure
- Procedural sequencing diagrams showing the correct order of operative steps
- Review questions at the end of each section to reinforce the sequence
WHY IT STANDS OUT
Most cardiac surgery texts are built around decision-making — when to operate, which procedure to choose, how to weigh risk. This book starts after that decision is already made. It's built entirely around the procedural framework: the physical steps of the operation itself, illustrated and sequenced so the reader can follow the case the way it actually unfolds in the OR.
If you're ready to see the operation, not just the diagnosis, this atlas is built for that.
An independent educational reference for students and healthcare professionals. It is not a substitute for formal training, supervision, or current clinical guidelines.
