Print on Demand. This book analyzes the complex relationship between political power and philosophical teaching in ancient Rome, with particular focus on the Stoic philosopher Seneca. The author reconstructs the milieu of ideas in the imperial court of the first century CE, where Seneca served as tutor and advisor to the young emperor Nero. Through a close analysis of Seneca's writings and the historical context, the book sheds new light on the practical and theoretical challenges of combining philosophical ideals with the realities of political power. The author explores Seneca's ideas on topics such as the nature of virtue, the role of the ruler, and the limits of human agency. The book also examines the tensions between Seneca's philosophical principles and the demands of imperial politics, offering insights into the complex relationship between philosophy and power in the ancient world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
