Print on Demand. This book explores the physical interpretation of albedo, a measure of the light reflected from celestial bodies. It delves into our understanding of the reflective properties of planets and their moons, asteroids, and even the surfaces of satellites within our solar system. The author examines different types of albedo, including geometric, spherical, and specific, and discusses how they are used to analyze the physical characteristics of these objects. The book explores the impact of surface roughness, shadowing, and the presence of atmospheres on albedo measurements. Its examination of asteroids, for example, sheds light on their diverse surface compositions, and opens up possibilities for identifying and studying smaller celestial bodies that may have been previously overlooked. Through these investigations, the book provides valuable insights into the nature and evolution of our solar system and the diverse range of celestial bodies within it. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Unhappily, this quantity, which seems very direct and obvious, has Often been confused with an entirely different Class of quantities which may properly be called spherical albedos and which have to do with the proportion of visible reflected solar light, taking into account the sphericity of the body and the known or assumed relations between the reflectivity and the angles of incidence and of reflection.
