Book 3 of the Apothecary Greene Trilogy
Providential chance brings Apothecary Richard Greene to the aid of a terribly injured man, the victim of a mantrap on a local estate. His patient’s revelation of an astonishing Roman artefact – and its source – will threaten not only the passions and principles that drive Greene’s life but will cost the lives of all who become involved with its discovery.
Beside that unravelling thread of cruelty and greed, another, stranger, narrative begins with the arrival of The Ashmole Box to Greene’s Museum; a mystery one hundred and fifty years in the making.
As the box is opened, the veils of time separating the long-dead Ashmole and the inheritor of his legacy dissolve and intertwine. A revenant is summoned, the terrifying pointer to a discovery beyond the Apothecary’s wildest dreams.
To a place of ancient wonder whose guardian is Death.
