Half-title soiled and loose top 3 inches; scattered fingermarking. No annotation or inscriptions. A Good copy. Aeronautical classic recounting the Author's own experiments with flight as a pioneering aviator. Maxim (1840-1916) is best known for his automatic portable machine gun; he also invented other contraptions including a mousetrap and curling irons. His aeroplanes were never a success, apart from the popular fairground ride the "Captive Flying Machine", one of which is still in operation at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
