The Art of Product Management brings together the best insights from the first decade of Product Bytes, Rich Mironov's long-running blog about product strategy, software product management technology companies, and how they interact. This collection is for everyone who builds or markets the next new thing.
This is more about product thinking than how-to templates or specific methodologies. Product managers (and others who are deeply committed to great products) will recognize themselves and their daily process struggles. How do I think about customers and solutions? Why does my organization behave the way it does? Can I help others to think long-term, or do I need to think for them? How do I love the people on my teams - engineers, designers, go-to-market folks – who bring very different skills and attitudes to our work? This book captures the inner life of product champions.

PRAISE FOR THE ART OF PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
“Rich just gets it. Whether we are talking about complex organizational dynamics, the fundamentals of product management, or the messy bits between our own ears, Rich excels at putting what we all think but can’t quite articulate into words. As if that wasn’t enough, he then layers on many of his own treasured insights.”
—Teresa Torres, Speaker, Product Discovery Coach, author of Continuous Discovery Habits
“The essential advice every product manager (and everyone who employs product managers) needs, distilled from decades on the front lines by a master of the craft.”
—Bruce McCarthy, Founder, Product Culture and co-author of Product Roadmaps Relaunched
“In the ever-evolving landscape of product management, it’s easy to be captivated by the latest trends. However, Rich’s The Art of Product Management stands as a timeless testament to the enduring principles of this field. His revised edition is a valuable resource for both newcomers and seasoned professionals, reaffirming the relevance of fundamental product management concepts.”
—Petra Wille, author of Strong Product People and Strong Product Communities
“Whenever I think I’ve had an epiphany about product management, I always find out that Rich said it first. His work is essential reading for all product managers and product leaders”
—Jason Knight, Fractional Product Leader and Podcaster
“I’ve shared articles from Product Bytes with my clients ever since it launched in 2002. Rich unpacks common and not-so-common product challenges and offers real-world guidance.”
—Steve Johnson, CEO, Product Growth Leaders
“Generations of product people, myself included, have learned from Rich’s words of wisdom. I always recommend Rich to product leaders and PMs who want down-to-earth advice from someone who’s been there.”
—Holly Hester-Reilly, Founder, Product Science Group
“My favorite B2B thought leader. Rich goes deep into the art and science of managing B2B products and enterprise stakeholders.”
—Daniel Elizalde, Product Executive and Advisor to B2B SaaS / IoT Companies
“Like a master filmmaker, Rich sheds a soft light on the harsh realities of product management, bringing a rare moment of entertainment to those of us solving hard problems for our customers.”
—Luke Hohmann, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, Applied Frameworks
