Item description from seller

New condition black boards with gold spine lettering contained in a new condition color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Foreword (Introduction) by General Marc A. Moore. "This compilation of Sun Tzu's Art of War, Machiavelli's The Prince, and Frederick the Great's Instructions to His Generals is invaluable to strategists at all levels - be they on the battlefield or in the boardroom. These timelss texts contain proven wisdom helpful to anyone seeking a strategic edge over their opponents and competitors. In combination they truly provide the ultimate advice on the art, and science, of war, as well as the art of life." - from the rear outer jacket "A necessity for small-business owners, business students, CEOs, and military strategists, this is one book that can really make a difference in a world where every move counts." - from the rear outer jacket "Art of War: This ancient Chinese text was written over 2,000 years ago, and Sun Tzu's principles still apply today. Not much is known about General Sun Tzu, except that his treatises are the first known written strategy on how to fight and win a war. His no-nonsense style led to his epithet Sun the Warrior. He is reputed to have never lost a battle. Sun Tzu's insight and simple instructions make Art of War timeless, and it is one of the most influential military handbooks ever written. Some say that it is also the best business book ever written, making it a strategic guide to business, war and life. The Prince: Published in the early 1500s, this work reflects Machiavelli's idea that theological and moral beliefs do not apply to politics. He stated that ".a prince.cannot observe all of those virtues for which men are reputed good, because it is often necessary to act against mercy, against faith, against humanity, against frankness, against religion, in order to preserve the state." Most of The Prince outlines how to gain and maintain power. Machiavelli clearly states that committing a small cruelty to prevent a large one is not only justifiable, but required of a just ruler. While this may sound harsh, his goal was to create a better government for his people. Instructions to His Generals: Frederick the Great, a.k.a. Frederick II - King of Prussia, published these instruction during the 1700s. When he began his reign, Machiavelli's writings were considered the guideline for kings to follow. Frederick didn't agree with Machiavelli, and wrote his rebuttal. Antimachiavell. Considered to be one of the greatest tactical geniuses of all time, his Instructions and leadership brought Prussia into the modern world, abolishing torture and granting religious freedom." - from the inner front jacket flap.

Store description

Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
