An archive of photographs, newspaper clippings, letters, and other ephemera pertaining to writer, George S. Brooks. All items are very good or better. A collection of ephemera detailing the career of George S. Brooks from the late 1920s to about 1960. A collection of ephemera detailing the career of George S. Brooks from the late 1920s to about 1960. Brooks fought in World War I and upon returning home starting a career in journalism. By the late 1920s he decided to use his experiences to write a play about his views on war which he called, *Spread Eagle*. With a successful play under his belt he was given more writing work, mostly rewrites, and was a frequent contributor to the *Saturday Evening Post.* The earliest photographs, taken in the late 1920s, are collected in small handmade albums with Kodaks illustrating prose poems from George and his wife's Helen's travels. George and Helen moved to Groton, New York during George's later career. A large amount of ephemera from this time follows Brooks' mayoral campaign. A scrapbook seen here includes clippings, memos, and political ads for Brooks' campaign. The race was contentious and ended in a tie, with numerous articles here discussing what should happen next. Brooks' opponent finally moved to another town disqualifying him from the position. An interesting archive documenting various aspects of the career of journalist, playwright, writer, and later mayor, George Brooks.…
