A small archive of two 8" x 10" photographs and a small note by actress Lillian Gish on her personal stationary. All items about fine. The photos are by New York photographer Stafford Meeson in the late 1930s and shows Gish and some unnamed friends posed around antique furniture. The note is written later, dated March 19, 1953, and addressed to a Mr. Barrie. In it she discussed how "television is truly magic" and that she hopes it "will fall into better hands than did the moving pictures." She ends saying she s leaving for her cousin s wedding and she hopes their paths "may cross some day." Gish and her sister Dorothy were pioneering actresses who began acting in the silent era. Lilian is often referred to as the "First Lady of American Cinema." Her career spanned from 1912 to 1987 and included D.W. Griffith s *The Birth of a Nation*, the highest-grossing film of the era. A modest but interesting collection of ephemera pertaining to an important American actress.
