National plan for better housing and a new leadership role for architects
A detailed look at how the Federal Housing Act opens opportunity for better, affordable homes and a broader practice for architects and engineers alike. It explains why, for the next years, residential remodeling and new homes could advance both living standards and the building profession.
The featured article and related pieces show how architects can demonstrate value to homeowners and the public, and how a national plan can elevate housing quality without sacrificing craft. Readers will see concrete examples of collaboration, financing, and design that aim to raise standards across communities.
Across case studies and expert commentary, the issue highlights practical steps—sketches, analyses, and local action—that translate policy into improved streetscapes, healthier homes, and more confident investment in housing. It sketches a path where architecture guides better living while supporting a robust, skilled profession.
- Understand how architects can help homeowners navigate new housing programs and loans.
- See the idea of district rehabilitation through illustrated before-and-after concepts.
- Learn how collaboration between architects and engineers can lead to better, more durable buildings.
- Explore practical approaches to plan, finance, and execute affordable improvements.
Ideal for readers of architecture, urban planning, and housing policy who want real-world examples and practical implications for the profession.
