A young Jesuit financier is garroted inside the Vatican Museums. The only one who saw the killer is a three-year-old boy.
Michael Visconte heads the Specialists, Italy’s elite unit for financial crime. For seven years he has hunted the Archangeli, a secret society of clergy laundering money inside the Vatican. The murder hands him his first real break, and it puts his wife and sons in the killer’s sights.
Then the Jesuits come to him. Their brilliant, secretive order runs a hedge fund with impossible returns, keeps files on everyone who matters, and plans to take control of the Catholic Church within days. They need Michael’s help, but one of their own is a traitor, and these priests are masters of memory, codes, and the art of getting inside a man’s head.
As the bodies mount, a beautiful stranger who resembles Michael’s long-dead first love keeps crossing his path. In a city where every ally has an agenda, he must decide whom to trust before the killer decides for him.
Months after this novel was first published, Pope Benedict XVI resigned, and the cardinals elected the first Jesuit pope in history.
Written by Janet Tavakoli, the Wall Street finance expert who exposed the culprits behind the 2008 financial crisis, Archangels: Rise of the Jesuits is a murder mystery thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.
