Item description from seller

455 pgs. 1st Am. ed. h.b. d.j. Translated from the German by Walter Sorrell and Denver Lindley. Author Remarque creates and introduces the reader to a group of characters who symbolize and interpret our common humnaity. The setting is Paris, full of teeming life yet always on the brink of catastrophe, of a culture nearing its inevitable end. Here the reader meets surgeons, singers & actresses, business people, American expatriates, prostitutes, shopkeepers, cab drivers, refugees, ladies of society and of the night, down on their heels philosophers. Here author Remarque again establishes himself as a great writer and a great humanitarian, as he did in his first book "All Quiet On The Western Front". Former owner's name on ffep; interior pgs. are bright & clean; blue boards are gilt lettered with minimum shelf wear. Illustrated d.j. has a few chips around edge but is now protected in mylar jacket. Overall cond. is very good. Size: 5 1/2" x 8".

Store description

Internet and mail order; the inventory is largely catholic in scope in that there are items in many fields and disciplines; much of the stock, especially that of older or earlier copyrighted material, is from items which have been in the family for several generations. With the passage of time, and family members, these collections have, somewhat, gravitated together and are offered for sale, via ABE; we continue to acquire additional items of interest, from time to time, as they turn up.
