Copy of typescript 22x28cm, (1)pp cover letter, (8)pp cable, stapled top left. Very good with 2 horizontal fold creases and some spotting. This was circulated to 673 signatories, 12 high profile newspapers and magazines, and Nixon, with a statement that more can be made available if required. It appears however to be extremely rare, with no others found. Americans for Justice in the Middle East (AJME) was formed at the American University of Beirut in 1967 following the Six Day War. George Baroody was President of its Dhahran Chapter, which included the US ex-pats listed at the end. Although this is not a formal Aramco document, Baroody was Aramco's Senior Legal Counsel, here using his Aramco address in Dhahran. He had graduated from Cornell, and the American University of Cairo where he translated the book Crime and Punishment Under Islamic Law. In 1952 he began practicing law in Saudi Arabia's Shariah courts, and wrote about it in Aramco World (Nov / Dec 1966). The cable dates to the closing stages of Nixon's 1968 presidential campaign, in which he was pledging to guarantee Israel a "margin of technological and military superiority" over the Arab world. Baroody here argues that this would undermine a US-brokered peace settlement, and promote Soviet involvement. Referring to his position with Eisenhower in 1956, he urges Nixon to adopt a more realistic approach, and allow the UN to work towards a mutually beneficial settlement. His covering letter addressed "Dear Fellow American", explains how he spent their donations on the Cable, and transferred unspent funds to support AJME Beirut.…
