Item description from seller

A historically significant publication, de-luxe bound and likely intended for presentation by the Kuwaiti Government as a commemorative work to high level officials. Purple cloth gilt-titled in Arabic with official Kuwaiti emblem and clear plastic covered panel inset with contents table to the front. In solid fold-over slipcase in matching gilt-titled purple cloth with brass corners to the upper board 34x25x5cm. Approx 348pp English and Arabic texts with multiple numberings including blanks, illustrated with Kuwaiti royal portraits and maps + 4 folding maps loose in a slipcase pocket as called for. The book and loose maps are fine. The slipcase is very good, with the folder scratched to the back surface and the inner slipcase loose from the folder owing to the book's weight. The UN formed the Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Demarcation Commission (IKBDC) in May 1991 under Resolution 687 which specified the ceasefire conditions at the end of the Gulf War. It was created as a matter of urgency to preempt further territorial flare ups. It submitted its final report to the UN Security Council in May 1993, which ratified it in the same month. IKBDC was chaired by former ILO Assistant Director General Nicolas Valticos. Its members included two independent experts (National Land Survey of Sweden Technical Director Ian Brook and New Zealand Surveyor General William Robertson), Kuwaiti Ambassador Tarek Razzouki, Iraqi Ambassador Riyadh Al-Qaysi, with UN Chief Cartographer Miklos Pinther as Secretary. IKBDC surveyed the land boundary and part of the maritime boundary, basing its work on historical developments and agreements in which Iraq had previously recognised Kuwait's independence and borders. Reflecting IKBDC's terms of reference, this reproduces relevant historical documents (including the Anglo-Turkish Agreement 1913; Kuwaiti-Iraqi correspondence 1922; Iraq's application to join the League of Nations 1932; Iraqi Protest Note on the Location of the Boundary Point and South Safwan; Determination of Iraqi Territorial Waters and Continental Shelf by Captain Coucheron-Aamot 1959; Kuwaiti-Iraqi Agreement 1963; and Kuwaiti Protest Notes on Iraqi violations). It also includes IKBDC's Final Report (S/25811) in the original English with Arabic translation, together with related material including press releases, correspondence, and legal points. The Final Report covers IKBDC's mandate, composition, rules, meetings, field sessions, participation, work, historical considerations, mapping and charting, decisions, demarcation, documentation; conclusion, and list of coordinates. LOOSE MAPS: Demarcation of the International Boundary Between the Republic of Iraq and the State of Kuwait 1:250,000, May 1993, colour, 105x59cm. As called for in the Final Report. Details include boundary pillars and boundary points // Boundary Turning Points: Positions of the Noticeboard South of Safwan, May 1993, b/w, 35x43cm // Khowr Zhobeir demaracted by the UN IKBDC, May 1993, b/w 49x34cm; // Annex IV reproduced from Captain W. Coucheron-Aamot's "Memorandum on Iraqi territorial sea and continental shelf with lateral boundaries and on the methods used in their construction" (1959), colour, 67x49cm.…
