Item description from seller

Although the upper Oligocene lake deposit of Rott is renown for its fauna and flora, very few water plants occur among the more than 250 taxa of leaves, fruits and seeds, pollen and spores. Under investigation here are two new occurrences of aquatic macrophytes for Rott, Brasenia victoria (Nymphaeaceae) and Stratiotes kaltennordheimensis (Hydrocharitaceae). Both species occur as small seeds which were recently recovered from cores drilled at the fossillagerst?tte. Due to exquisite cellular preservation, the morphological and anatomical details of the seeds, some of which are being described for the first time, could be fully studied using scanning electron microscopy. The taphonomy of the fossil seeds may account for their absence in the previously described floras from Rott. Stuttgart. E. Schweizerbart sche Verlagsbuchhandlung (N?gele u. Obermiller). 13 pp. + 3 plates, br. folio.
