Add to basketArtificial Intelligence in Hydrogeology explores the transformative role of AI in understanding and managing groundwater systems. This comprehensive edited volume brings together leading experts to examine cutting-edge AI techniques applied across diverse aspects of hydrogeology, from groundwater flow modeling and quality assessment to climate change impact and contamination remediation. Each chapter delves into specific applications of machine learning, deep learning, and hybrid models, providing practical insights for advancing groundwater research and resource management. With a focus on both the potential and challenges of AI, this book offers a holistic view of how data-driven solutions are shaping the future of hydrogeology. This book serves as a crucial resource for researchers, practitioners, and students involved in water management, environmental science, and sustainable development in the context of groundwater resources.
Prof. Peiyue Li is a full professor in the field of hydrogeology and environmental sciences at Chang’an University, China, where he serves as the Vice Dean of School of Water and Environment. He has wide experience in groundwater quality assessment, hydrogeochemistry, and groundwater modeling. He has led over 30 research projects, and published 14 textbooks and academic monographs, as well as over 220 articles in refereed journals on topics that range from groundwater quality assessment and groundwater hydrochemistry to groundwater pumping tests and in situ tracer tests. He at present serves as Associate Editors for Exposure and Health, Mine Water and the Environment, Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Human and Ecological Risk Assessment, Applied Water Science, Water Practice and Technology, and Discover Water. He has been awarded one of the most highly cited researchers by Clarivate, Elsevier, and other organizations. He has also been given several national/provincial talent titles and awards for recognizing his achievements in research and teaching.
Prof. Vetrimurugan Elumalai is an established Hydrogeologist expertise in contaminant hydrology and groundwater modelling. He is excelling as an established researcher and mentor and Head of the department of Hydrology, University of Zululand, South Africa. He is South African National Chair of Hydrology (SARChI-Tier 1). His project experience covers groundwater resource investigation and development, groundwater characterization, contaminant hydrogeology and urban development, surface water groundwater interactions, remote sensing, and GIS application in Water Resource Management. He has published about 80 research papers in reputed journals. He is registered scientist with SACNASP. He is a life member of International Association of Hydrological Science, International Association of Hydrogeologists, International Association of Hydrological Sciences and Geological Survey of South Africa.
Dr. Jianhua Wu is a Full Professor at Chang'an University in China, specializing in hydrology and water resources in arid areas, loess seepage and its disaster mechanisms, and groundwater environmental protection. She has led over ten research projects, and has been awarded more than ten research prizes. Her research output includes over 80 academic papers published in international journals, with 16 of them recognized as highly cited and popular papers by Essential Science Indicators. She is an associate editor for the international journal Exposure and Health. Dr. Wu's research excellence has garnered recognition from prestigious organizations such as Clarivate and Elsevier, who have selected her as one of the most highly cited researchers in the world.
Prof. Balamurugan Paneerselvam is a Associate Professor at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. His research focuses on climate change impacts on groundwater, coastal ecosystems, and the application of AI in water resource management. He has published over 40 journal articles, edited several books and guest-edited special journal issues on groundwater contamination, climate change, and the water-food-energy nexus. He has received the Young Scientist Award and actively reviews for leading journals in environmental science. Prof. Paneerselvam is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Water Resources Association.
