Il m'est permis de croire � l'utilit� de mes Souvenirs polytechni qwas lorsque plusieurs minist�res, et la Direction g�n�rale des ponts et chauss�es, apr�s s'�tre fait rendre compte de cet l'ouvrage, ont bien voulu en acqu�rir de nombreux exemplaires. Quand je l'ai pu bli�, � la fin de 1827, je n'avais point termin� les traductions que je rapporte d'apr�s deux c�l�bres auteurs d'italie; il me manquait une partie des mat�riaux relatifs aux autres sujets trait�s dans cet Appen dice. Les dessins n'�taient point dispos�s sous le format convenable � leur gravure; enfin j'attendais ou l'ex�cuti0n, ou la sanction com p�tente de quelques objets afin de ne rien exposer qui ne f�t appuy� soit par l'exp�rience soit par une approbation sup�rieure.
