This is a story about an elderly care giver who is imprisoned for 5 years for elderly abuse and exploitation. Appeal after appeal goes unheard until she writes her story through the love and faith, protection and support of God.
Mila’s story unfolds based upon a true story made fictitious autobiographical to instructional format about all the challenges she faced as an immigrant Filipina trying to help so many, and in doing so protect and save her family and life.
This story offers many challenges to Mila. It shows how she is confronted with an indictment, and then wronged by the system and jury. She presents herself as a mother, business woman and care giver who for a short time cares for an elderly man named Brian who comes into her life and because of unknown pre-existing conditions upsets everything in her life because of her devotion and support of the elderly and their care.
As the reader and viewer, Mila’s story unfolds showing how terribly the legal and medical system can come against one wrongly and terribly within a few months. Brian’s simple accidental slip and fall comes under scrutiny through so many investigations and charges causing Mila to lose everything.
In The Appellant™, Mila shares her story with a raw honesty that will leave readers both surprised but also inspired. Mila’s The Appellant is so much more about her spirit, faith, and how she applied all the hard lessons and setbacks to solutions and successes. Even in Mila’s darkest moments, she finds light in even her darkest places – prison. Jesus comes to her and shares with her the good news, and leaves the reader feeling they are spending time with a friend who like themselves finds themselves in a dark place needing ultimate forgiveness and solace.
The Appellant™ though colloquial in nature asks many questions that should have been confronted and dealt with before, during and after all the investigations, indictment, trial, appeal and pardon. The insights she could have hoped to have used will become the series “The Appellant”™. In this edition, Mila asks elderly care givers you to embrace the challenges and also the splendor of care giving for those that need it the most, the elderly.
Mila encourages us all through the hope and faith in God to claim our rightful place in a world that may be trying to knock us down, find our own unique talents and gifts, and pursue our passions and dreams.
