"Antiquamania" is a witty and insightful exploration of the burgeoning obsession with antique collecting in the early twentieth century. Written by the celebrated author Kenneth Roberts, this work captures the fervor, the eccentricities, and the occasional absurdities that define the world of the dedicated collector. Through a series of humorous sketches and observations, Roberts delves into the pursuit of period furniture, glassware, and other relics of the past, offering a satirical yet affectionate look at those who find themselves under the spell of the antique craze.

The book serves as both a cultural commentary and a guide to the pitfalls of the trade, highlighting the interactions between eager buyers and shrewd dealers. From the challenges of identifying authentic pieces to the competitive spirit of auctions, "Antiquamania" provides a vivid portrait of a hobby that transitioned from a niche interest into a widespread social phenomenon. Roberts' sharp prose and keen eye for detail make this a delightful read for anyone interested in the history of collecting or the enduring allure of historical artifacts. It remains a significant literary reflection on the human desire to preserve the past and the lengths to which individuals will go to possess a piece of history.
