About this Item
pp 71 Jean Anouilh's tragic play translated by Lewis Galantiere. Methuen's Modern classics series, very good in orange cloth, boards slightly bowed and stained to one corner, spine sunned, internally fine in a tight binding. Touchingly inscribed by Harry Stopes-Roe to his wife Mary "To living love, Christmas 1959". This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes-Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes-Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis.
