This book uncovers the rich, often overlooked history of Dutch animation, offering fresh insights into the films and the cultural and political influences that shaped them. Enriched with film stills, sketches and behind-the-scenes visuals, it culminates in 18 personal filmmaker profiles, exploring their inspirations and creative journeys.
How did animation techniques and styles evolve in the Netherlands and what influence did the digital revolution exert on the Dutch animation film production and the animation films that were made? What role did cultural institutions like Film Fund, Holland Animation Association, the Holland Animation Film Festival, the Netherlands Institute for Animation Film, Eye Film Museum, Kaboom Animation Festival and art schools play? How do animation films and visual art intertwine in the Netherlands? These subjects are explored and interspersed with critical analyses of the works of Dutch animation masters.
This book will be of great interest to academics, students and professionals working and researching in the field of animation.
