"Animals Looking Into the Future" is a compelling examination of biological foresight and the adaptive behaviors of living organisms. Written by the distinguished biologist William Allison Kepner, this work investigates the remarkable ways in which animals, ranging from microscopic life forms to more complex species, demonstrate actions that anticipate future stimuli and environmental requirements. Kepner explores the intersection of biology and psychology to understand how life forms prepare for subsequent events through evolutionary adaptation.

The book challenges strictly mechanistic interpretations of life, proposing instead that organisms exhibit a form of purposive behavior. Through meticulous scientific reasoning and observation, Kepner discusses the evolution of sensory systems and the role of the nervous system in facilitating survival through anticipatory action. This study represents a significant contribution to the fields of zoology and the philosophy of biology, providing early 20th-century insights into the teleological aspects of nature and the sophisticated foundations of animal intelligence. "Animals Looking Into the Future" remains a thought-provoking resource for readers interested in the evolution of behavior and the biological roots of consciousness.
