As they flee through strange and hostile lands, the little girl's trust and affection for Viv grows but Viv's resemblance to a people both despised and desired makes her friends few and far between. Viv is desperate to deliver the little girl to her family and resume the search for her mother, but as they near safety, disaster strikes, and Viv is condemned to a slow and painful death. In Ezam, Thris struggles to care for Ky who is deeply damaged by his time in the Rynth, and when Ky flees, they end up in a maze-like world with no way out. Their hopes for rescue lie in Ash, but Ash is trapped too, entranced by a world of shining light, and unaware of his friends' plight. Will Viv survive to be reunited with the child she loves or lose her too, as she has lost her mother and Thris.…
