THE ANESTHESIA EQUIPMENT REFERENCE THAT EXPLAINS THE WHY BEHIND THE WHAT
Every anesthesia practitioner knows how to turn the dials. The ones who never get caught off guard know why the dials work — and what to do the moment they don't.
Anesthesia Equipment — Fundamentals and Applications is a comprehensive clinical reference built on a single premise: equipment mastery begins with understanding, not memorization. Written for anesthesiologists, CRNAs, SRNAs, anesthesiology assistants, and anesthesia technologists, this handbook translates the physics and engineering principles behind every major anesthesia device into practical, clinically applicable knowledge.
WHAT THIS HANDBOOK COVERS
18 clinical chapters across 7 parts — the complete anesthesia equipment ecosystem: gas laws and foundational physics; the anesthesia workstation from cylinder to common gas outlet; vaporizer design including desflurane's heated pressurized system; breathing circuits, CO₂ absorbers, and scavenging; airway equipment from face masks through video laryngoscopes, supraglottic airways, fiberoptic bronchoscopes, and cricothyrotomy kits; monitoring including pulse oximetry limitations, capnographic waveform diagnosis, invasive arterial lines, PAC hemodynamics, neuromuscular monitoring, and depth-of-anesthesia monitors; vascular access and fluid delivery including TIVA systems; regional anesthesia equipment and ultrasound guidance; anesthesia ventilators and one-lung ventilation equipment; and patient safety, infection control, and sterilization standards.
BUILT FOR CLINICAL REFERENCE — NOT EXAM PREP
This is not a question bank. It is a working reference for the practitioner who needs to understand equipment at the level required for safe independent practice — the level at which you can orient to an unfamiliar machine, perform a reliable checkout, and manage any equipment failure that arises during a case.
Every chapter explains principles before procedures. Failure modes are addressed alongside normal function. Callout boxes flag clinical pearls, red flags, drug alerts, and common pitfalls. Tables consolidate comparison data, alarm thresholds, equipment specifications, and clinical decision frameworks.
WHO THIS HANDBOOK IS FOR
Anesthesiology residents, CRNAs, SRNAs, anesthesiology assistants, anesthesia technologists, perioperative nurses, intensivists, and emergency medicine physicians who share equipment platforms with anesthesia.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FAMILIARITY AND MASTERY
A practitioner who is familiar with anesthesia equipment operates it correctly under normal conditions. A practitioner who has mastered it operates it correctly under all conditions — including when something has gone wrong, the alarm is sounding, and there is no time to look anything up.
This handbook builds the second kind of knowledge.
Get your copy and carry the knowledge that makes equipment transparent — so your full attention stays where it belongs: on your patient.
