Paperback. This book is a visitor's guide to experience first-hand some truly magnificent living legends of the arboreal world. Britain is blessed with some of the most majestic and ancient trees in Europe. From millennial oaks surviving on rural estates to prehistoric yews finding sanctuary in our churchyards. Also discover the rare fragments of once vast ancient forests, scattered open-grown trees in wood-pasture, pockets of moss-rich Atlantic rainforest and granny pines from the once extensive great wood of Caledonia. These trees and their patchwork mosaic help tell the story of our ancient treescape. Their character extends profoundly into our human psyche through history, legend and mythology, in duality providing a sustainable resource that built the very foundations of Britain. The most comprehensive guide to ancient trees ever published. Over 300 places to visit, with spectacular photography, detailed locator maps, co-ordinates and stories of ecology and folklore. From the great oaks to the Celtic rainforests, the millennial yews to remnants of once vast hunting forests. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
