Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the oral history of the Maori people of New Zealand, compiling the traditions and mythology collected by the author in a single volume. The Maori had an unwavering belief in their history, sustained by an austere religious adherence, and preserved through generations of priests. The book explores the history of a people isolated for ages from the rest of the civilized world, through their own words, customs, and religious beliefs. This rich indigenous history reveals their own account of creation, and the arrival of their ancestors in New Zealand. Their mythology explores the origin of animals, plants, and the supernatural beings they believed shaped the world around them, while the section on folklore delves into taboos, fairy tales, ghosts, and spirits. The author's notes also elucidate the affinity of the Maori language with that of several other Pacific islands. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9780282498566_0
