Every anesthetic decision carries a margin narrow enough to frighten anyone who understands it — the dose that settles a patient and the dose that arrests one sit closer than most references admit. This manual was built for the clinician who refuses to be caught unprepared, the one who wants to walk into any operating room and know exactly what to do before the moment demands it.
Most references describe the operation and leave you to work out the anesthetic. This one inverts that. It leads with the anesthetic decision, treats the airway as a spine that runs through every case, and teaches the physiologic reasoning behind each choice rather than handing you a recipe to memorize and forget. From induction agents to crisis management, every chapter is written the way an experienced clinician actually thinks at the bedside.
The result is a working companion you return to before difficult cases, consult after the hard ones, and trust across an entire career — precise, practical, and grounded in real practice rather than textbook ideals.
Inside these pages, you will develop the ability to:
- Lead with the anesthetic decision, not the operation — approach every procedure by first resolving the airway, the physiology, and the plan, so you are never reverse-engineering the anesthetic from the surgeon's steps.
- Master the airway as a continuous discipline — a preformed plan carried through every case, from the shared airway to the feared can't-intubate-can't-oxygenate drill, with the decisiveness that saves the patient.
- Reason through physiology instead of memorizing recipes — understand why each agent, dose, and technique works, so your judgment holds even when the patient refuses to match the textbook.
- Manage the crisis before it manages you — recognize anaphylaxis behind the drapes, catch malignant hyperthermia at the first rising breath, and run the modified resuscitation the operating room demands.
- Protect the comorbid patient across every specialty — the failing heart, the anticoagulated bleeder, the frail brain, and the diseased lung, managed with the same rigor whatever the surgery.
- Command the full perioperative journey — from opioid-sparing multimodal analgesia to the structured handoff and safe recovery, closing every case with the same care that opened it.
- Build the judgment that compounds over a career — cognitive aids, honest debriefing, and deliberate practice that turn years of cases into genuine mastery rather than mere repetition.
Every technique is paired with a full-color, true-to-life clinical image, so you see precisely what you are meant to recognize — anatomy, landmarks, and decision pathways rendered as they appear in real practice, not as abstractions.
Buy Now and step into every case with the calm authority of a clinician who is always prepared. The patient on your table deserves an anesthesiologist who has already rehearsed the hard decision — let this manual be where you rehearse it.
Confidence at the head of the table is not a gift. It is built, case by case, from preparation and judgment. This manual puts that preparation in your hands and keeps it there — a trusted reference you will reach for on your hardest days and your most ordinary ones alike.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
