Print on Demand. This book covers foundational concepts and principles of mechanics, focusing on rigid bodies, and static and kinetic systems. Beginning with the fundamentals of force, mass, and motion, the author provides accessible explanations of kinematics, kinetics, and the principles of work and energy, momentum, and impulse. The book places a strong emphasis on the transmission, resolution, and composition of forces, including their moments. It goes on to discuss the conditions of equilibrium, exploring coplanar and non-coplanar force systems, friction, and centroids. This book is a comprehensive introduction to mechanics, suitable both as a primary text for university courses or as a reference for practicing engineers interested in refreshing their understanding of foundational principles. By exploring these core concepts, this book provides an indispensable grounding in the fundamentals of the mechanics of rigid bodies. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The book has been completely reset, and many detailed changes in the presentation Of the subject have been made for the purpose Of giving special emphasis to various ideas, concepts, and principles that experience has shown are especially difficult for the student to grasp. Likewise, several rather comprehensive illustrative problems have been added, particularly in Statics and Kinetics, for the purpose Of emphasizing the great importance Of a general method Of attack in applying the principles Of mechanics to the solution Of problems.
The lists Of review questions and problems at the end Of chap ters - a feature that was introduced in the second edition - have been retained in this edition in response to many favorable com ments On this feature Of the book.
As in the previous editions, the aim in this revision has been to present the subject as an integrated whole and to encourage the student to seek the meaning and significance Of detailed knowledge through its relation to the larger topic or the more general conditions.
