This report analyzes interlaboratory measurements of gold’s vapor pressure using Standard Reference Material 745. It covers how certified temperature-pressure values are determined over a wide pressure range and temperature span, and how uncertainties are estimated for both the certified values and typical single-laboratory results.
The study compares two thermodynamic approaches and examines how data from multiple laboratories are combined to reveal within- and between-laboratory differences. It also discusses the practical use of the material for detecting systematic errors in high-temperature vapor-pressure work and for validating measurement methods such as Knudsen and mass spectrometric techniques.
- How the heat of sublimation for gold is derived and cross-checked with established thermodynamic data.
- How uncertainties are calculated for certified values and for typical lab measurements.
- Differences between the second and third law analyses and what they imply for practice.
- Methods for pooling data across laboratories and assessing consistency and reliability.
Ideal for researchers and technicians working with high-temperature vapor pressure measurements, and for anyone using Standard Reference Materials to validate their methods.
